Thesaurus terms

I picked "student attitudes" because finding the library to be fun is all about a student's attitude or perception about the library.

Student attitudes:

Adolescent Attitudes; Childhood Attitudes; Classroom Environment; Student Behavior; Student Characteristics; Student Evaluation of Teacher Performance; Student Interests; Student Motivation; Student Reaction; Student Role; Student Subcultures; Student Surveys; Student Teacher Attitudes; Students;

One way that the results from this representation is different from the tags is that there can be a much larger group of terms from tagging because the more people add about whatever they are tagging, the more results/tags you will get.

Another way that these results are different is that these results are much more formal than the tag results.

These Eric Thesaurus results are all plainly related to the original term - they make sense. On the tags, many of the terms make sense in relation to the original term, but not all of them do. Sometimes you can even click on a term and see what it's relating back to and still not know what the tag means or why it is associated with the original term.

Finally, these terms are in controlled vocabulary, where the tag terms were not.

Tags for The Dangerous Book for Boys

At librarything.com I did a search for the term "fun". When I saw the results, I recognized one of the "Most often tagged fun" books. It is called The Dangerous Book for Boys by Conn Iggulden. I chose this book because it's a fun book for boys and my blog is about finding fun in the library and it's for boys of all ages, so it works with my school library setting as well!

Here are the tags from librarything.com:

The Newest Addition - RSS feeds

For my next competency, I am adding an RSS feed of podcasts brought to you by YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association). I found this RSS feed of podcasts searching the ALA web site (http://wikis.ala.org/readwriteconnect/index.php/ALA_RSS_feeds). Since I found this on the ALA site, I thought I would use it instead of one from a yahoo or google search because I thought this was very appropriate for my library of interest and topic.

Because my blog covers young adult library topics and my blog relates to school libraries, I thought this RSS feed for podcasts from YALSA was perfect. Also, some of the podcasts relate to fun at the library, like the a recent one titled "Teen Documentary" about teens who have made a documentary for myspace. There are also interviews with authors, talks about social networking, information on gaming interest groups and more!

Blog - Cunniff School Library

http://cunniffbookreviews.blogspot.com/

This is a link to the Cunniff School Library blog for their fourth and fifth graders called, "Cunniff Book Reviews".

Their blog "
is an online forum for the fourth and fifth grade students at the Cunniff School to post their opinions on books and respond to the postings of their peers."

I found this blog through Google's Blog Search (http://blogsearch.google.com).

I picked this blog because it shows how a school library can use a blog to get students excited about reading and writing while they are having fun doing it.

Purpose of this blog

This is a blog that was created to post assignments for my grad school class called Information Storage and Retrieval (5013).

My library of interest is the school library and my area of interest is how the library can be fun!

As a teacher with sixteen years of experience, I know that so many students don't realize how fun a library can be. I hope I can open some eyes about that and get some ideas for myself!

Are they having fun?
